Darwin's Worms

Darwin held a lifelong fascination with the humble earthworm – working its way through the mud and slime, passing and cleansing the planet as it goes.  The earth, it seems, can manage without us – but would it cope without the worm?

DARWIN’S WORMS is a highly theatrical slant on his love of these creatures but in a manner that talks about now – about the supposedly feral youth of today, about the encroaching wriggle of fundamentalism and about the world we have passed through our many and various systems and delivered to future generations. It will be highly visual, very comic and very powerful… are we still evolving? If so, in what direction?

Through the form of a distinctly surreal and twisted science lecture demonstration, a team of crack scientists take the stage and compete to out perform one another in re-creating some of Darwin’s more bizarre experiments - such as playing the worms the bassoon to see how they react!

But then, in the darkened room of the scientists laboratory something begins to go awry… the worm comes to life, and turns on it’s creator… the experiment takes over the stage and a world is brought to life that is out of control.

“Wonderfully sardonic pitch-black comedy. Witty one-liners abound throughout… "

"Glorious and innovative - left me breathless”

We are proud to say that no worms have been injured during the course of this production! Though some wiggled out in a row over billing & merchandising rights…
