26 to 29 April 2023
at Fountains Café
Oastler Market

fountains of tales

A last hurrah! to this iconic landmark and to all the colourful shades and slices of life passed through its door.

This brand new site specific show celebrated the extraordinary stories of everyday people.

Drawn from interviews with the Georgiou family themselves, proud proprietors of the café for all of its 53 year history, and the café and market regulars, Fountains Of Tales brings to life a bustling world of characters and stories - some funny, some sad, and all guaranteed to warm the cockles of true Bradfordian hearts.

The show was performed by a brilliant and talented community cast of Bradford actors and Bradford College Performing Arts students.

Fountains of Tales combines the skills and experience of theatre makers Mick Martin & Jude Wright, alongside heritage specialist Trizia Wells. Together they help communities to tell their own stories in their own words, sharing their heritage with new audiences and bringing the past to life through performance.

Fountains of Tales is generously supported by Historic England (Everyday Heritage Grants) and Bradford Council (Arts Grants) with support from the Markets Team.
